Homework Students will have homework this year though it won't be much as long as they use their class time wisely.
Reading One hour of reading at home is required each week. Reading can be done all at once or split up nightly. Reading should be recorded in the student planner. The title of the book, author, and minutes read should be written in the reading column. (Writing it once is fine if the book is the same all week.) A parent must sign the planner for the student to get credit! Signed planners will be checked on Fridays. This will count toward their reading grade.
Spelling Spelling homework will be the same each week. It will be completed in a spelling notebook and it will all be due on Thursdays. Monday- Write each word 3 times in cursive Tuesday- Choose 10 words and write a complete sentence for each. *Sentences must have at least 8 words. *Each sentences must start with a different word. *Don't change the tense of the word. If the word is start, don't change it to started. *Underline the spelling word. *Sentences can be printed or in cursive. Wednesday- Choose 5 words and create a paragraph. The paragraph must make sense! In a paragraph all the sentences are on the same topic. (Like a story.) You can change the tense of the spelling word if needed. Thursday- Complete the homework practice page and study for the test on Friday.
Make sure you spell correctly! This is spelling homework! If your spelling sentences are perfect (you followed all the rules and there are no errors) you will earn a homework pass. Have a parent check your homework for you so you can earn a pass!
Math Math homework will be assigned some days and will always be due the following day. If you do not know the multiplication facts it is your homework to practice them every night until you know them.
It is important to get used to doing homework because you will most likely have homework in middle school and high school. In 5th grade, I really want to give you an incentive for completing your homework, so each month I will have breakfast club for all students who completed all their homework for the month. (That means you get to have breakfast with me!) Students who make every breakfast club will be invited to Blake's for ice cream in June.
